All the fathers and all the mothers in the world should stop in their tracks and meditate on all the changes that have been happening over the years. It is children who make parents change, evolve and learn. Although the general thinking is that parents are the ones who make children one way or another (which is also true), the reality is that children also have this power over their parents. Watching them take flight is one of the greatest joys.

It seems like yesterday that children seemed like helpless little babies in their crib and today, they are strong and independent adolescents who are becoming adults with their own identity and well-formed thoughts. Fathers and mothers change, of course they do, but children undergo a transformation that happens too quickly. They learn to fly, thanks to you. Soon they will take flight.

A few years ago you probably discovered your baby’s face for the first time, but as the years go by you discover how it is transforming both physically and mentally. But the years that pass do not matter, because you will never stop rediscovering your children in the different stages of growth they go through. 

Children grow up so fast that the passage of time begins to be relative to you. They grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and even spiritually, and they don’t grow gradually. They are changes that they inherit, that they learn that they discover from you, from their parents, within the family and in the society in which they develop. They begin to realize that they also have needs and that a family will always be the most important thing.

You have the privilege of taking care of your children, of being with them all the time in the world … You will be their support, they will need your unconditional love and your guidance, they will absorb from you everything they need to be able to develop successfully in society … But you will not they belong. You will see how they will leave the nest and take their own flight, with their own learning. You will continue to see how they fly from a distance, with their beautiful wings.

For any father or mother it can be a very hard moment, seeing the children take flight… But it is the law of life and it has to come. Even if it is hard, it will also be a feeling of joy since you can feel proud of how your little one (not so little anymore) has started to fend for himself, to be independent… Not to need you.

But as parents, you will always be by his side to be able to support him, to help him take flight again if he suddenly starts to decline. Parents, expectant throughout life, will only want their children to be well and that is inevitable. They won’t save you from problems, but they will help you cope, no matter how old you are. The tools for life are never enough because life will always be putting new obstacles in the different stages of life.

Watching your children grow up is not changed by anything in the world. There will be favorite parts of life, but watching your children grow is the most important of all. A father or a mother who enjoys alongside each stage of the life of their children, without a doubt, is the greatest treasure you can have.

The little moments in life are what make things special… The transition from one stage to another. The fatigue of parenting is worth it. Things change and you do not lose anything, you have won the most incredible love of all: that of your children and your family. It is a privilege to be able to see how the children learn to take flight. And whatever happens, they will always know that the love you have for them is the most real and deepest that can exist.
