The kids and the emotions

Sometimes we ask our children about how their day has gone and the only thing we get is a dry “good” or an ambiguous gesture. It is not so easy for them to name their emotions, much less to explain to us in words what they have experienced at school. To help them, we propose a great solution: the Pacifier of Emotions.

It is the typical origami game that all generations have played, but this time with a variation. It consists of putting in it the basic emotions and an invitation to explain situations in which they feel that way.

The truth is that the emotion kite can be adapted to the taste of each family. If the children are very young, icons can be drawn to represent those emotions. If they are older, they can be named and accompanied by a practical example: the key lies in connecting with what they feel.

How do you play the game of emotions?

It is important to make it clear to them that there are no good or bad emotions, that they are all valid and that as human beings we experience all of them at some point in our lives.

The objective is that with this game children learn to manage their emotions and not reject or evade any of them, hence the importance of knowing them.

If you don’t remember how to do it, we are going to help you a bit. You will only need one sheet of paper. Do it with your children so that they become familiar with the art of origami.

  • Cut it out so that it is square.
  • Fold the paper so that the right corner meets the left and the left corner meets the right.
  • Now, fold each corner to the center and flip the paper over.
  • Continue folding the corners back to the center.
  • Write the number from 1 to 8 in each triangle and a picture of each emotion on the inside.
  • Finally, fold the paper in half, then bring the sides together.
  • Stick your fingers in and start playing!
